TFT champion pool size set 17

The Champion Pool (often referred to as the Bag Size) represents the finite, shared supply of each unit available to all eight players in a match. As players purchase copies of a specific champion, the remaining quantity in the pool diminishes, causing the mathematical probability of finding that unit to drop significantly—until the supply is entirely exhausted.

Understanding these numbers is critical for determining if a 3-star upgrade is mathematically possible.

Champion CostChampion Pool SizeTotal Capacity (Max Players for 3*)
1-Cost29Sufficient for 3 players to 3-star the same unit.
2-Cost22Sufficient for 2 players; the 3rd player will be contested.
3-Cost18Exactly enough for 2 players to hit 3-star.
4-Cost10Highly Contested: Only 1 player can hit 3-star (requires 9 copies).
5-Cost9Unique: Only 1 player in the entire lobby can hit 3-star.

Special Champion Pool Rules

Shared Global Pool: All champions appearing in the Shop or on the Carousel (Shared Draft) are drawn from a single, unified pool shared by all 8 players.

Player Elimination & Selling: When a player is eliminated or sells a unit, those champions are immediately returned to the shared pool, making them available for others to roll again

Champion Duplicators: This item prioritizes pulling from the existing pool. However, if you already hold 8 copies and the pool is completely exhausted, the Duplicator will spawn an extra copy from “thin air,” allowing you to hit a 3-star unit regardless of the bag size limit.

Pandora’s Bench: Unlike Duplicators, this Augment cannot create new copies. It only transforms units into champions that are still available in the shared pool.

Roll Odds Optimization

To maximize your chances of hitting specific units based on Champion Pool mechanics, you should implement these “mathematical” strategies to manipulate the odds in your favor:

Buying out the Tier

  • The Method: While rolling at a specific level, buy all champions of the same gold cost as the unit you are searching for and keep them on your bench.
  • The Logic: By temporarily removing “junk” units of the same tier from the global pool, you force the system to draw from the remaining pool, directly increasing the probability of seeing your target champion.

Post-Elimination Rolling

  • The Strategy: If an opponent is “contesting” your units (holding copies you need), wait for them to be knocked out of the game.
  • The Logic: When a player’s Health reaches 0, all their champions are instantly flushed back into the shared pool.
  • Action: Save your gold and go “all-in” immediately after a contested player is eliminated to take advantage of the replenished supply.

Scouting & Contested Pools

Never roll blindly. Use hotkeys (usually 1 and 3) to check other boards:

  • The Risk: If 2 or more players are building the same 2-cost or 3-cost units (which have limits of 18–25 copies), your odds of hitting a 3-star version drop significantly.
  • The Pivot: If the pool is heavily contested, it is often better to “Push Levels” and pivot into uncontested 4 or 5-cost units rather than forcing a reroll.

Strategic Use of Champion Duplicators

  • Efficiency Tip: Avoid using a Duplicator if the pool is still healthy. Try to hit your units through natural rolls first.
  • The Power Play: As mentioned before, the most optimal use for a Duplicator is when you have 8 copies and the pool is completely exhausted. This allows you to “cheat” the bag size by spawning a 9th or 10th copy that wouldn’t normally exist.

Economy Management Types

  • Slow Rolling: Staying above 50 gold and only rolling the excess interest each turn. Best for hitting 3-star units at their optimal levels (Level 6 for 2-costs, Level 7 for 3-costs).
  • Hyper Rolling: Spending all your gold in a single round (usually after a creep round) to find 1-cost units while your level provides the highest percentage odds.
